To a time where life is calm, to the homeland of the –akis“nukniks (people of the –akis“nuk First Nation) in the Traditional Territory of the Ktunuxa People.
Where nature and our people interacted, where you will learn about our ancestors and our Ktunaxa culture.
Those that hold this knowledge dear will be your guides.
Here you will enjoy the good fortune to step gently into a unique culture and it is our wish that we will all attain a new respect for each other and this land we call home.
The days evolve out of relationships that occur in a traditional way, and the experiences themselves end up being different for each person. It will turn out exactly the way it is supposed to, for everyone to get out of it exactly what they are meant to.
During your stay with us, you will enjoy hearing the Ktunaxa language spoken, as we are striving to revitalize this rare language. It is known as a cultural isolate language (an exceptionally unique language unlike and unrelated to any other in the world) and it is critically endangered.
The guest room that has been prepared for you is a tipi overlooking Lake Windermere in the heart of the Columbia Valley, the historic location of hunting and fishing camps of the Ktunaxa people thousands of years ago.
Enjoy this first-hand account of the experience!
